Analysing my favourite films' title sequence - Blogging task 7

The title sequence I have chosen to analyse is from I AM LEGEND. The title sequence begins as with a black screen for a few seconds and then a quote reading "The world is quieter now. We just have to listen. If we listen, we can hear God's plan. - a survivor" This quote sets the mood of the film as it tells us the world is quieter, suggesting there's hardly anyone left in it. Also it was written by 'a survivor' which helps the audience understand what the film is about and the genre as survivors usually appear in films with lots of action, etc.

We then move on to titles over moving images. Which consist of the main setting of which the movie will take place. For each shot we see Warner Bros Picture, Will Smith, Emma Thompson, Alice Braga, Dean Mihok, Novel by Richard Makeson and Music by James Newton Howard in this order. There is also a voice over during this part of the opening scene which is Will Smith on a radio asking if anyone else is out there. This helps the audience understand what has already happened in the movie and what kind of atmosphere there is, which is also emphasised through the music and incidental sound behind the voice over.

Finally it goes back to titles on a blank screen which is just the film title, I AM LEGEND. An explosion sound effect is used here to create a more dramatic atmosphere and foreshadow what is to come.
