What are the sub-genres of Teen Drama films? - Blogging task 11

The two sub genres of Teen Film are Youth and High School Drama.
The two sub-genres of Teen Film will have different ways of representing the coming of age theme, the ways in which the story unfolds through the narrative and the characters or social groups we see.

Youth Drama
Youth Dramas usually focus on the social problems the main character (which tends to be male) faces. The main character is usually portrayed as a rebellious one that is constantly in conflict with authority and other characters, therefore portraying youth as being difficult. These types of films are very popular with teenagers as they feel they can connect with the storyline, etc.
An example of Youth Drama is Kidulthood.

High School Drama
These films usually focus on the socialisation of young adults in an environment such as school or college. They usually celebrate the coming of age and are, most of the time, female centred but can focus on a male lead role. They tend to focus on and show changes and conflict with other social groups.
An example of a High School Drama is High School Musical.
